Detectives investigate suspicious house fire in Ararat

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating if a suspicious fire at an Ararat home is linked to an earlier fire.

Emergency services were called to the Barkly Street property and found it well alight on Saturday at about 1.15am.

The fire was extinguished and there was no damage caused to neighbouring properties.

A crime scene was established and an arson chemist examined the area deemed the fire had been deliberately lit.

Detectives are investigating if there are links to an earlier suspicious fire at the address, on 20 April this year.

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit’s Detective Acting Sergeant Jason Boyd said he was keen to hear from anyone who knows anything about either incident at the Victorian-style property.

“There’s been two fires at this property in recent months and someone in the community must know something," he said.

“Thankfully no-one has been injured in either fire but we need the community’s help to solve this."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
