PHOTOS: Horsham parkrun return proves popular

More than 130 people ran, jogged and-or walked the Wimmera River parkrun course as the event returned to Horsham at the weekend.

Organiser Andrew Sostheim said the five-kilometre event was a great success, with people thrilled to participate for the first time since March last year.

“It was great to see everyone back smiling,” he said.

“There were 30 personal bests – not that it’s about that – and I know people are looking forward to getting back into their weekly parkrun routine and the physical and social benefits.

“The volunteers were happy as well, everyone was rapt.”

Parkruns are free, weekly, community events throughout the world designed to offer a positive and inclusive experience.

Wimmera River parkrun is at Sawyer Park on Saturdays at 8am.

Ararat parkrun also resumed at the weekend following a break thanks to COVID-19.

Ten of 44 people achieved personal bests and four people completed the course for the first time.

The Ararat run, also on Saturdays at 8am, starts in Alexandra Gardens near the café.

People can visit www.parkrun.com.au for more information about the parkrun movement, including locations and how to become involved.
