Annual lapidary club showcase

Horsham and District Lapidary Club hosted its annual gem show at the weekend, demonstrating practices and displaying thousands of pieces in progressive states from fossicked to sales stages.

Club president Linda Stewart said the event showcased the club and its activities to the community and prospective members.

“The show brings more awareness to the community, who we are and what we are, and also hopefully brings new members,” she said.

Ms Stewart said the show had features for all ages.

“We had rock displays, fossil displays, cut gem displays, faceting demonstrations, UV reactive rocks, jewellery, silversmithing, wire wrapping, cab cutting, sales, and trailer fossicking for the kids,” she said.

“Some of these gems we have actually dug and fossicked and collected ourselves, and some are donated to the club.”

Ms Stewart said the club met each Wednesday, the first and third Saturdays of the month, and the last Sunday of the month for a variety of activities including workshops and field trips.
