Chloe Bibby moves on from Valkyries

Wimmera basketball export Chloe Bibby is on the hunt for a new home after the Women’s National Basketball Association, WNBA, Golden State Valkyries waived her contract on Tuesday morning Australian time.

Bibby, a 188cm forward who grew up in Warracknabeal, signed with the Valkyries last month, appearing in five games and averaging 6.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.6 steals per contest as a reserve.

The Valkyries signed the 27-year-old after some of their European-born players opted to play for their national teams in the EuroBasket championship.

But with the return of French player Janelle Salaün and Italian player Cecilia Zandalasini following the conclusion of EuroBasket, the Valkyries cut the contracts of Bibby and guard Bree Hall.

Bibby thanked the Valkyries for giving her an opportunity to play in the world’s top women’s league in a post on social media.

While her next move is unclear, Bibby’s time with Golden State served as a perfect audition for a potential continued career in the WNBA. Regarded as a sharpshooter, Bibby enhanced that reputation by hitting 42 per cent of her three-point shots on nearly four attempts a game.
