Community support reciprocal for Goroke business

Community support, a short commute and flexible hours have contributed to the longevity of Goroke trader Lynette Taylor’s career.

Owner of Black Cockatoo Collectables for the past 30 years, Mrs Taylor lives on site, which she says makes it easy.

“I live behind, I don’t have to drive to work, and if I don’t feel like opening, I don’t,” she said.

Mrs Taylor and her husband had a business in Queensland before they travelled Australia for two years, the pair ultimately staying in Goroke.

The late Mr Taylor ran the town’s tip – which is now run by the couple’s son.

“Family inheritance, I say,” Mrs Taylor said.

“But it’s been a wonderful life. My neighbours here, and the men’s shed, are all wonderful to me, if I get confused with paperwork I have to do, or need help fixing something, they’re wonderful to me.

“My son lives across the road, I’m very lucky to have him.”

Mrs Taylor said she enjoyed the support of Goroke’s community.

“It’s the best town in the world, and I mean that sincerely. Everybody is so kind,” she said.
