Connor Weidemann in running for state cricket team

Horsham Cricket Association player Connor Weidemann is one step closer to the under-17 Cricket Australia National Championships.

Weidemann has been selected in Cricket Victoria’s under-17 Male Emerging Players Program, with upcoming training and trials for the championships.

Weidemann said it was an honour to be selected in the side.

“I enjoy playing cricket,” he said.

“This will be a good opportunity, to be training with the best cricketers from the state is exciting.

“We have training sessions every two weeks in Melbourne from this Sunday onwards, and then in September will have tryouts to make the team.”

The program aims to introduce players to a high-performance environment, improve their game and provide the opportunity to showcase skills at national championships.

The sessions will help prepare the Vic Metro and Vic Country squads for the under-17 championships, which will be in Tasmania in January.

Former Test cricketer Julien Wiener will coach the Vic Country side with Shannon Young as his assistant.

Skill acquisition expert Tim Buszard will work across both squads as a specialist coach.
