Dan Tehan will continue his service as the Federal Member for Wannon. 

The Australian Electoral Commission declared Mr Tehan the first-choice candidate for the seat last week after a lengthy counting process. 

Mr Tehan overcame fierce contention from Independent candidate Alex Dyson to retain the seat. 

Mr Tehan secured 44 percent of the first-preference vote, and about 54 percent on a two-party preferred basis. 

Mr Dyson earned a nine per cent swing in his favour, about six percent away from the incumbent. 

“I will continue to work tirelessly with you to further improve our communities and to deliver my plan for Wannon,” Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan was the Federal Government’s Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister. 

He will become the Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship for the Opposition. 

The Federal Election was on May 21.
