DEDICATED: Horsham City Bowling Club’s Elsie Bardell was presented with a life membership of the club.

Elsie Bardell earns life membership

Horsham City Bowling Club has acknowledged the untiring efforts over many years of Elsie Bardell, by elevating her to life membership status at the club’s annual general meeting.

Mrs Bardell has been a member of the club for 35 years, during which time she’s been a tireless worker in a variety of committees, from social to catering to selection.

When not involved in onfield duties, Mrs Bardell can be seen trimming the roses and tending to the upkeep of the garden at the front of the clubhouse.

Mrs Bardell and her late husband Barry were instrumental in establishing the NightHawks Competition, which she is still involved in.

The six-week competition, commencing in January each year, has been hugely popular among businesses and social clubs in the area and has proved to be a great way of introducing the general populace to the wonderful sport of lawn bowls.

Time has not dampened her enthusiasm, as she is still involved in it.

Mrs Bardell has been the club’s singles champion on four occasions as well as being a member of winning combinations in the pairs, triples and fours’ events.

She has also represented the club at state level, in pairs, triples and fours’ events; being runner-up in the pairs event on three occasions.
