“ I think there was eight minutes there where there wasn’t a goal score at all, so that had everyone on the edge of their chairs, but the weather sort of impacted that as well, with the wind and rain,” she said.
“I think both teams had plenty of opportunity to run away with it, but neither of us really took it at the right time and a draw was probably the fitting result, really.”
Schuckar said impressive games from young Burra Ruby Wilson and ultra-consistent midcourter Lucy Brand helped Minyip-Murtoa’s performance.
“Ruby played goal-keeper for the game and it’s probably her best match of the year so far,” she said.
“It was really pleasing to see her step up and have a really good game – she certainly showed what she’s capable of.
“And Lucy, she’s just forever consistent – she’s a player you can always rely on to settle a side and very rarely makes any mistakes, so she was a very steady head for us on the day, which in a close game like that, we needed.”
The Burras officially opened their new courts and changerooms at Minyip on Thursday last week, made possible due to a $1.9-million Federal Government grant, $100,000 club contribution and $50,000 from Rupanyup Minyip Finance Group.
The club now has a new netball court with bench seating, a netball shelter, fencing and LED lighting to keep players and spectators safer and more comfortable on and off the court.
The funding has also helped deliver new female changerooms for football, netball and swimming athletes and umpires, accessible and unisex toilets and new first-aid rooms.
“It was really nice to have a run on the new courts and we’re incredibly lucky to have the new facility there, with new change rooms and we’re all decked out ready for a big year ahead now, which we’re very thankful for,” Schuckar said.
In other games, Dimboola hosted Warrack Eagles in what turned out to be a tight tussle.
There was just four goals between the two sides at half-time, before the Roos jumped out to a 35-26 lead at three-quarter-time.
In an even fourth term, Dimboola held on to win 42-33, with wing-attack Billie Barber and goal-shooter Nicole Polycarpou, 36 goals, judged best players.
For the Eagles, midcourters Emma Koschitzke and Maddie Okely impressed.
Horsham dished out a 65-49 win over Stawell on Saturday, with captain Ebonie Salter a standout in defence, while coach Georgie Carberry, contributing 22 goals, showed her class in goal-attack.
The Demons held a strong 10-goal lead at the main break, before a 20-goal third term put the game beyond doubt.
Despite the 15 goal margin, Stawell – through goal-shooter Ayva Mitchell and wing-defence Erin Freeland – showed promise in an even fourth quarter.
Horsham Saints easily accounted for Southern Mallee Thunder, scoring an 85-27 win.
Wing-attack Megan Byrne and defender Maddi Bethune were named best players for the Saints, who did not look back after getting out to a 23-10 lead at quarter-time and then pushed out to a 31-goal margin at half-time.
Saints travel to Nhill this Saturday, while Warrack Eagles host Ararat, and Southern Mallee Thunder play Stawell at Jeparit.
The match of the round is likely to be Horsham versus Dimboola, in a rematch of last year’s preliminary final.
