Preliminary excavation work on suspected illegal waste dumps at a property 15 kilometres south of Kaniva will start ‘in coming weeks’.
Environment Protection Authority Victoria northwest regional manager Scott Pigdon confirmed latest developments as the authority continued a ‘highly visible’ presence in Kaniva district.
He said preliminary excavations would help identify the type and extent of waste buried at the site.
Dr Pigdon said EPA had overseen construction of new groundwater test bores on the 1400-acre property but reiterated that groundwater quality was unlikely to be affected by the presence of the dumped waste.
