Flying start for Bullants in Horsham cricket

By DEAN LAWSON

An unbeaten century from Justtin Combe has Noradjuha-Toolondo Bullants off to a flyer in the team’s return to Horsham Cricket Association A Grade company.

Combe clipped 111 as the Bullants responded to a Jung Tigers tally of 200 by passing the target with only three wickets down.

The Tigers also only lost three wickets in posting the target at Horsham Community Oval, David Puls hitting 83, Sam Leith 50 and Angus Adams an unbeaten 40.

But it was a defiant Combe who had the last laugh in the one-day clash as he set his team up for a second-round encounter against Laharum this weekend.

Laharum will go into the contest keen to reverse a first-round loss to Blackheath-Dimboola.

The Mountain Men will be home and on the hunt for more runs after limping to 119 last week.

Several Laharum batsmen made starts, Mal Adams top-scoring with 29 not out down the list, which will encourage team leaders, while a variety of bowlers shared wicket spoils.

Blackheath-Dimboola was on song with the ball, Elliot Braithwaite and Robert Somers bagging three wickets each and Harry Young chiming in with a couple.

It will also be keen for more runs when it takes on Homers this weekend, despite Brodie Cramer, 55, and Braithwaite, 41, doing enough to get the combine a score of 9-138.

Jung Tigers, meanwhile, will attempt to bounce back from its loss to Noradjuha-
Toolondo, when it plays Colts, again at its Dimboola Road headquarters.

Colts fell short of a 210 target for victory against Rupanyup-Minyip last week but showed enough with bat and ball that they should be in the mix this season.

Jeremy Newell collected three wickets for the Gallopers, who did well to contain the Blue Panthers to 7-209 at Rupanyup before Brad Miller, 29, Dylan Arnott, 28 and Nathan Koenig led efforts to haul in the target.

Rupanyup-Minyip collected valuable early points mainly through the efforts of Mark Mbofana with 67 in the middle order, Brent Hudson, 40, and Adam Carter, 34. Carter also captured three wickets.

The Blue Panthers now turn their sights on Horsham Saints, which in hitting 6-171 at Horsham Sunnyside failed to set Homers a big enough score to chase.

All-rounders Tim Bell, 68, who clouted seven fours and two sixes, Tony Caccaviello, 43, and Josh Hedt, 23 not out, kept the Saints in the contest against the Pigeons after a tough start.

The visitors then ran into Adam Atwood, 72, Craig Britten, 44, and Paddy Mills, 23, as Homers slipped past the target in the 37th over with five wickets down.

Earlier, Britten claimed 3-25, sharing the new ball with Mohan Bandara, 2-37.

Homers, reigning premiers, will attempt to back it two from two, when they test Blackheath-Dimboola, again at Sunnyside this weekend.
