Green waste disposal weekend in Horsham

Horsham Rural City Council is encouraging residents to make the most of a free green waste disposal weekend as part of a community-wide spring clean-up drive.

The event, on October 3 and 4, aims to promote safer, more accessible neighbourhoods while helping residents prepare for the fire season.

Mayor Brian Klowss said spring was the perfect time to tidy up around the home, prune back vegetation and prepare for the warmer months ahead.

“We’re encouraging residents to take advantage of this free disposal opportunity as part of their spring clean-up activities,” he said.

The free green waste disposal weekend will run at the Horsham, Quantong and Mt Zero transfer stations.

Residents can dispose of up to one cubic metre of green waste free of cost, equivalent to a standard 6x4 trailer load.

Loads exceeding one-cubic metre will incur charges on the excess volume only.

“Well-maintained properties help create safer, more attractive neighbourhoods and support preparation for the fire season,” Cr Klowss said.

“This initiative makes it easier for residents to undertake important maintenance while disposing of green waste responsibly.”

There is no limit on the number of visits people can make during the weekend.
