Bird enthusiasts from across Victoria and interstate will gather in Stawell on May 12 for Wimmera Bird Club’s inaugural Wimmera Bird Expo and Sale.

With or waiting for them will be a vast array of colourful and curious Australian native and exotic aviary birds.

Club president Greg Henley said there had already been a strong response from prospective sellers booking tables to display and sell their birds at the event.

“We have more than 30 tables booked and we’re hoping to have more than 50 by the event,” he said.

“This is our first sale and we’ve been extremely happy with the response. I’ve already had calls from sellers in Adelaide, Naracoorte, Bordertown, Mildura, Hamilton, Warrnambool and Ballarat. It really shows there is a big interest in the hobby and people are willing to travel quite a long distance, especially if they are chasing something particular.

“We expect an extensive array of birds on show, with everything from black cockatoos to finches and everything in between.”

The event is at Stawell’s State Emergency Service Hall in Sloane Street with doors opening for sellers at 8am and sales between 11am and 1pm.

Mr Henley said food and drinks would be available and there would also be plants and shrubs for sale.
