A bible history exhibition will visit Horsham to celebrate 500 years of William Tyndale’s English Bible, bringing original bible leaves and several artefacts.

Curated by Luis Bermudez, curatorial assistant Barry Ladlow said the exhibition brought items to the public, which would ordinarily only be found in art galleries and museums.

“It’s an experience – people get to see real tangible artefacts from centuries ago,” he said.

“We’ve got a 2000-year-old lamp, handwritten scrolls, an original leaf from the Tyndale Bible, and we have a King James leaf from 1611.

“King James had a story, which will be explained in the exhibition – he didn’t like some of the writing because it said you shouldn’t obey the King you should obey God only, so that’s where it all came from, he actually wrote his own Bible, the King James version.”

Mr Ladlow said Horsham’s exhibited items represented about a seventh of the complete collection.

Bermudez will speak at the September 20 free, all-ages event, from 2pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Hall in Wilson Street, Horsham. Refreshments will be supplied.
