Horsham volleyball finale

By David Berry

Tonight sees the culmination of another season of volleyball in Horsham with grand finals across four grades to be decided.

In A Grade the two top teams have qualified, with Shados Inala going into battle against Heidelberg.

Shados defeated Heidelberg in four sets in the second semi-final and will be strengthened by the return of Kara Johnson and Loucas Vettos.

Heidelberg will have to decide whether to apply a defensive mindset and try to match-up on Shados’ big hitters in Jack Hannan and Jordy Weidemann or go on the attack and back their defence to keep them in the game.

In B Grade, Von Steiger Bloods, with Emma and Blair Avery in good form, take on Phantom Masters, who bought the Von Steiger Shadows train to a screaming halt in the preliminary final, winning in straight sets.

Father and son combinations Richard and Joey Nagorcka and Vaughn and Otto Maroske are combining well for the Masters and a five setter is on the cards.

In C Grade, Von Steiger Boomers take on Slutheran.

The young Boomers have improved out of sight as the season  has progressed and will be confident of winning. But Matt McLoughlin and Kingsley Dalgleish, in his farewell game, will fight to the end and make it tough for the Boomers.

The junior grand final promises plenty because it will be an all Lutheran affair between Raiders Black and Phantoms.

All 11 players go to Holy Trinity Lutheran College, in a remarkable changing of the guard in junior volleyball in Horsham.
