Infrastructure meeting for Jeparit residents

Hindmarsh municipal leaders have invited Jeparit district residents to attend a meeting to learn about community infrastructure projects in the town.

The ‘community conversation’ in Jeparit Senior Citizens Room at Jeparit Memorial Hall will start at 5.30pm on Monday.

Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor Rob Gersch said the gathering would be an opportunity for Jeparit residents to gain a better understanding about projects planned for Jeparit and to ask questions.

Proposed projects include –

• The refurbishment of a Council Customer Service Centre and Senior Citizens Room to incorporate a public library.

• Redevelopment of the area between the Jeparit Caravan Park-Jeparit Tennis Club and the Wimmera River to establish the Jeparit Visitor Node of the Wimmera River Discovery Trail.

• Redevelopment of a terraced erosion-control system at the Wimmera River area known as Jeparit Swimming Hole.

• Landscaping and streetscape improvements in Roy Street.

“The council is aware there have been discussions and concerns raised by the Jeparit community regarding the proposed refurbishment of the existing Council Customer Service Centre and Senior Citizens Room to establish a public library,” Cr Gersch said.

“The session will be a great opportunity to assure people the room will continue to be available. All of the initiatives to be discussed are aimed at improving community and public spaces and therefore increasing the aesthetics and amenities for residents and visitors.”
