Matty Lloyd makes strong debut at West Perth in WAFL

Horsham Football Club export Matty Lloyd kicked a goal in his West Australian Football League debut for West Perth at the weekend.

Lloyd, 19, headed west to pursue his football dream in July.

West Perth coach Geoff Valentine said Lloyd played predominantly on the wing and half-forward in the Falcons’ 93-point win over Peel Thunder.

“Matty had 13 touches and five marks in a really pleasing debut,” he said.

“I hope it’s the start of bigger things for him.

“Matty’s been working really hard building relationships since arriving at the club."

The Falcons take on arch-rival East Perth on Saturday in a tougher assignment for the team.

“We were happy to beat Peel by that margin and this week will be another tough challenge," Valentine said.

“I’m confident Matty will step up to the task.”

Lloyd is the brother of Sydney Swans player Jake Lloyd.

Valentine rates the younger brother highly.

“We’re pretty happy with the Lloyd we’ve got,” he said.
