State Member for Lowan Emma Kealy has called for government intervention in western Victoria’s monopolised gas market as a Wimmera brick company goes under.
Stawell-based brick manufacturer Advance Bricks and Pavers, will turn off the furnace after more than 80 years, with company management blaming the rising price of gas for the closure.
Ms Kealy said the result was because one retailer owned 100 percent of gas line-transmission capacity between Carisbrook and Horsham.
She said the news was ‘devastating’ for the business and for the Stawell community.
