All seven of Horsham Rural City Council’s rubbish trucks now have names, thanks to a ‘Name Our Rubbish Rigs’ competition.

The program invited young people from across the municipality to add some personality to council’s rubbish trucks, with name suggestions and votes received by council’s youth services team, as well as through schools and other youth networks.

Many pop-culture references, clever alliterations and terrible puns were received, with the following names selected: Garbage Guzzler; Optimus Grime; The Bin Bandit; Trash-o-saurus; Peppa Rig; Truck Norris; and Bin Diesel.

“It’s been terrific to see the enthusiasm shown by our younger residents through the name Our Rubbish Rigs Program,” Mayor Brian Klowss said.

“It’s a fun initiative that has given young people an opportunity to engage with council while adding a little extra personality to an important community service.”

Seven lucky voters received $50 vouchers from a random prize draw, drawn by Cr Klowss, youth mayor Cassara Rowan and youth council deputy mayor Minha Rahman.

Name plates will be added to the trucks at a later date.
