Northern Grampians mayor: We have faith | COVID-19

Northern Grampians mayor Murray Emerson has asked residents to be ‘alert but not alarmed’ in the wake of authorities confirming a case of coronavirus in the shire yesterday.

He said Northern Grampians Shire Council had complete faith in district and state healthcare providers to carefully manage the case to prevent further transmission of the virus.

“While we would ideally like to avoid this pandemic completely, that is not realistic,” he said.

“What we can do, however, is to continue to follow the advice of medical experts, increase our hygiene practices, and ensure we all adhere to social distancing measures to slow the spread as much as possible.

“While one case is one too many, we can make every effort to keep this number at one.

“We are a strong community and one that will not be broken by this virus. Follow the advice to stay home when you can, limit contact with others, and be sensible, rational, and compassionate.

“The council has all the latest health advice and information on the Coronavirus Information Portal on our website so please stay informed there and, as always, be kind to each other during this time.”

Cr Emerson said people could visit website  www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/coronavirus for updates to council and community services as well as business support.

He said the best place for health advice and the latest updates on the response to coronavirus in Victoria is the Department of Health and Human Services website www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus.

People with specific concerns about coronavirus can contact the COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398.
