PHOTOS: Horsham Spring Garden festival success

One of the biggest public responses to a Horsham Spring Garden Festival has provided organisers with a flush of confidence about the event’s future.

Festival publicity officer Sonia Matthews described the two-day attraction at Horsham Botanic Gardens as ‘absolutely fantastic’.

She said committee members could not help but speculate whether the number of people was a record.

“There were so many people there, especially on the Saturday,” she said.

“We can safely say it was one of the best and it sets a new platform on which we can continue to build.”

Warm and sunny conditions and a wide variety of gardening promotions, stalls and presentations greeted people during the 32nd instalment of the event.

Ms Matthews said one of the challenges for next year would be following up magnetic television gardening personality Costa Georgiadis.

“He’s going to be a hard act to follow,” she said.

“He was so engaging and you couldn’t help but be drawn in by his enthusiasm.

“He was interested in everything about the festival and the gardens and even challenged everyone to return next year with two others, and we want to hold people to that.

Ms Matthews said stall holders and exhibitors were also delighted with the festival, which augured well for their return next year.

“It will also encourage other groups and organisations to be involved,” she said.

Environmental sustainability in gardening was the festival’s them.
