WALK THE PLANK: Members of Nhill’s Piggery Lane Players theatre group don pirate gear for a pantomime performance of Captain Hook’s Revenge on Saturday at Nhill Memorial Community Centre. The cast will peform two shows. Pictured are pirates, top row from left, Jessica Mason, Matt Sherwell and Stephanie Lynch, and front row from left, Christine Richards, Catherine Bates, Karen Prenzler and Shannon Smith in a final rehearsal.

‘Players’ prep pantomime

Pirates, Peter Pan and a poisoned cake will be the talk of Nhill when community theatre group Piggery Lane Players presents its annual show on Saturday.

‘Captain Hook’s Revenge’ – a very silly pantomime – will be at Nhill Memorial Community Centre for two performances, including a matinee at 2pm and evening show at 7.30pm.

The family-friendly show, helmed by first-time director Matt Sherwell, is a ‘bit different’ from the group’s usual performances.

President Jill Kube said Captain Hook’s Revenge would be one of the group’s biggest shows in recent years.

“We try to do at least one performance a year,” she said.

“Traditionally we have done a lot of British comedies and occasionally serious dramas. Last year we did a murder mystery.

“We haven’t done a pantomime in a while, so this is a bit of a return to the family audience.

“With the matinee at 2pm, we are really keen for families to come along to that. It’s something for the children.”

Mrs Kube said Piggery Lane Players was preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

Originating from Nhill Drama Group, Mrs Kube said the now Piggery Lane Players came really close to folding at one time.

“But we have about 16 people in the cast now, so it’s picking up again,” she said.

“We actually have three to four teachers from Nhill College who are in it, and quite a few ex Nhill College students.

“They started with school productions and have stayed in the area and wanted to continue on with performing.”

Mrs Kube said people could buy tickets in advance from Nhill’s Amber’s Sweet Bliss or at the door on Saturday. Adult tickets are $15, and student and children tickets, $10.
