Poulton back to Warracknabeal with her band

Singer-songwriter Amber Joy Poulton and her band The Holy Two will be back in the Wimmera next month as she brings her new show, Honky Tonk Queens, to Warracknabeal Town Hall.

Poulton has toured the region in recent years with shows including ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ and ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman’, but said Honky Tonk Queens would give local audiences a ‘very different’ experience to her past visits.

“Man, I Feel Like a Woman is a theatre production where lots of top-secret shenanigans go on and only people who come to the show know how that ends,” she said.

“Honky Tonk Queens is a more traditional sentimental performance where we really rely on the songs from six of the best females in country music to take the audience back in time and reflect on moments
in their lives that these songs represent.

“From the stage, we get to see those reactions on their faces.

“Some are sentimental, some are endearing or funny, and there really is nothing like knowing that we can provide those moments.”

The six women celebrated by Poulton’s new show include recently deceased legendary American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, as well as Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt and June Carter Cash.

Poulton labelled the sextet ‘unforgettable women who gave country music some of its greatest songs’.

“We’ll be performing songs like Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’ and ‘I Fall To Pieces’, Dolly Parton’s ‘Coat of Many Colours’, Linda Ronstadt’s ‘Blue Bayou’, Tammy Wynette’s ‘Stand By Your Man’ and we’ll even let Johnny Cash join June Carter for a duet,” she said.

“For those who have seen me before, they can rest assured I will bring my cheeky sense of humour with me again.

“For those who haven’t seen me perform before, I’d like them to know that I respect country music and these women just as much as they do, and when I sing their songs, I sing them as close as I can to the original. Why mess with perfection?”

Honky Tonk Queens will be at Warracknabeal Town Hall on Friday, October 16 at 10am, with doors open from 9.30am.

Tickets are $30 and include free tea and coffee.

People can buy tickets online via www.amberjoypoulton.com.au or in person at Feet First Footwear, Warracknabeal.
