Preliminary count reveals likely councillors for Horsham Rural City

Unofficial vote counting for Horsham Rural City Council shows Cam McDonald in May Park Ward and Dean O’Loughlin in Green Park Ward likely to be elected councillors.

Progressive count figures at the end of Group A show the votes from ballot papers returned from the general mail-out that have passed declaration checking and have no other votes associated with the voter.

Group B votes - the remaining ballot papers that show envelopes received during the postal vote receipt period – are yet to be counted.

In May Park Ward, with 1474, 70.16 per cent, of the votes counted, show Cam McDonald with 73.25 per cent of the votes, ahead of Les Power on 26.75 per cent.

Voting in the wards with three candidates is not as clear cut, and may need to wait until all votes are counted and in some cases, preferences taken into account.

For Horsham North Ward, where 1539, 67.83 per cent, of the votes have been counted, results so far show Todd Wilson has 40.33 per cent; Kathy Ross 30.83 per cent; and Claudia Haenel 28.84 per cent.

In Oatlands Ward, with 1483, 69.33 per cent, of the votes have been counted, and show Angela Munn on 48.4 per cent; Dylan Hesselberg 36.44 per cent; and David Bowe 15.16 per cent.

The Pine Lake Ward votes, with 1580, 76.81 per cent, of votes counted, show Ian Ross with 64.06 per cent; well ahead of Toby Haynes 19.78 per cent and Michael Bond 16.16 per cent.

Rebecca Sluggett, Kalimna Ward, and Brian Klowse, Wyn Wyn Ward, will be elected unopposed in their respective wards.

The Victorian Electoral Commission, VEC,  will accept postal votes that were completed by the voter before the close of voting on October 25, up until 12 noon on Friday, November 1.

Given complete results can only be determined once all admissible ballots have been received and counted, results timelines will vary across councils.

Provisional results will be published on the VEC website as they become available at vec.vic.gov.au – following completion of preference distributions or computer calculations.

All results are provisional until official declaration ceremonies, between November 7 and 15.

Yarriambiack Shire Council election were declared on Monday, as all three wards were uncontested at the close of nominations and the six candidates have been elected unopposed.
