Pride Prom celebration

Horsham Youth Council will host a Pride Prom on Saturday, as part of Pride Month celebrations.

Horsham Rural City Council youth project officer Louise Barnett said the Pride Prom, for people aged 13 to 18, was open to all LGBTIQA+ young people and their supporters.

“The project is about creating a safe space for the Wimmera’s LGBTIQA+ young people to feel socially connected,” she said.

“Events like these are incredibly important for young LGBTIQA+ people.

“They provide an opportunity for them to come together in a safe space and celebrate who they are.

“It is also important that we as adults lift up and support the efforts of our young people when they show initiative in creating spaces for themselves.

“We will survey attendees to see how they enjoy the night and encourage them to think of more ideas for additional events that will help keep a strong LGBTIQA+ youth community connected.

“That way we can then build on this momentum and apply for further funding for other projects.”

The prom will be at The Station in Horsham from 6pm to 8pm, with the first 50 tickets free and available through Horsham Youth Facebook page.
