Road safety forum in Horsham

A Victorian Transport Association regional forum focused on road safety, compliance and the future of freight across the Wimmera will bring industry leaders, regulators and operators to Horsham next week.

The event will feature representatives from the Victorian Transport Association, VTA, Department of Transport, Victoria Police, National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, WorkSafe Victoria, Transport Accident Commission, WHG Technologies, and industry experts, providing direct access to the latest regulatory and safety updates impacting the industry.

VTA chief executive Peter Anderson said the regional forums played a vital role in connecting regional operators with critical safety information and ensuring consistent industry standards across Victoria.

“Our regional forums are essential in delivering important road safety and compliance messages directly to transport operators in regional communities,” he said.

“Operators in areas like the Wimmera face unique challenges, and it’s critical they have access to up-to-date information, practical guidance and direct engagement with regulators to help keep their businesses, and all road users, safe.”

Mr Anderson said the forums were not limited to industry participants.

“These forums are open not only to transport operators but to the broader community as well,” he said.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we encourage members of the public with an interest in freight and safety to attend and be part of the conversation.”

A key highlight of the Horsham forum will be a dedicated NHVR session outlining upcoming changes to the Heavy Vehicle National Law, set to take effect from July 1, helping operators prepare for regulatory changes ahead of time.

Attendees will gain practical, real-world insights into compliance priorities, emerging risks and safety expectations, while also having opportunities to ask questions, share experiences and strengthen industry networks.

The free session is on June 10 from 7.30am to 11.30am and includes a complementary light breakfast; registrations via www.vta.com.au/regionalforums2026 are essential.
