Rotary clubs champion cancer program

The Rotary Clubs of Horsham and Horsham East have combined with Rotary Club of Camberwell and Myeloma Australia for a new cancer-support program.

Rotary Outreach Myeloma Program, ROMP, will run in conjunction with Wimmera Cancer Centre in Horsham.

The program will allow Wimmera myeloma patients, their carers and family to have face-to-face meetings with highly trained myeloma nurses from Melbourne using video-conferencing facilities at the centre.

Rotary Club of Horsham’s Don Perry said the project was the result of a partnership program between Rotary Club of Camberwell and Rotarians in Horsham.

“Thanks to this initiative we will have another world class-service available to the Wimmera community,” he said.

“It will be a service that will provide advice and support without the need to always travel to Melbourne.

Wimmera Cancer Centre support supervisor Carmel O’Kane said she was looking forward to arranging the start of ROMP and was already talking with the specialist Myeloma Australia nurses in Melbourne.

Mr Perry said the program would start in the next few months after final arrangements for project requirements.
