Serving up a Mother’s Day tradition

Wimmera Lutheran College’s Mother’s Day high tea, featuring catering, service and musical entertainment by students, was again a sell-out event.

At the Horsham campus on Friday, students showcased the hospitality skills they had learned in their year-nine and 10 elective classes with teacher Amanda Przibilla, while VCE music students performed.

“We have three lessons a week in café, including barista training and preparing recipes and menus for the high tea,” Mrs Przibilla said.

“Tickets sold out in a couple of days, which was great. We love to see parents and grandparents of the café and music students come in to see their children do wonderful things.”

Students fill all hospitality roles during the event, from front-of-house taking money and orders, to making drinks and serving food.

“We’ve been doing this for a while now – this is the ninth year – we’ve guests who have come from the first year that we’ve done it and still are coming now,” Mrs Przibilla said.

“Even though they don’t have children at the school, they still like to come.”
