LEARNING ON THE JOB: Liam Braybrook and Sophie Parish enjoy work experience at ACE Radio. Picture: PAUL CARRACHER

Students gain insight into media at ACE

Horsham Holy Trinity Lutheran College year-10 students Liam Braybrook and Sophie Parish experienced life at ACE Radio and The Weekly Advertiser during a week of work experience.

With the ACE Radio team, Liam has been involved in the process of ‘going to air’ from start to finish.

“I liked writing scripts, which was surprising, and I got to have a crack at recording for the radio as well,” he said.

“Everything I have done here has been interesting.”

Liam said he was interested in game development, but thought he would do work experience in the media field.

“I want to go into game development but there’s not a whole lot of options to do that in Horsham,” he said.

“I thought it would be cool to check out how radio operates and that’s why I chose to do work experience with the team at ACE.”

Sophie wants to pursue photography and media and joined The Weekly Advertiser photographer Paul Carracher for two days of on-the-job learning.

Sophie said she learned a lot about the behind-the-scenes work of photography and online systems. “I’ve been able to work with a whole lot of new computer programs, especially in the Adobe suite,” she said.

“I’ve picked up lots of tips from Paul about where to position people in a photo, what makes photos look the best and what goes into making the website.

“My favourite part of the experience has been seeing how much effort goes into making everything happen smoothly.

“I know that I want to stick with my pathway to photography and media after working with the team here for a couple of days.”
