Wimmera Health Care Group statement on positive cases

Wimmera Health Care Group acting medical services director Dr John Gallichio has reassured the regional community that in-depth contact tracing involving two new positive COVID-19 cases in Horsham is underway.

He has provided an update statement –

“We understand the Horsham community and district  is concerned and anxious about the two COVID-19 cases that have been detected in the past 48 hours.

“Please be reassured that the contact tracing for those individuals is underway. Fortunately, they have not needed hospitalisation.

“But it reinforces all the things we’ve been talking about over the last few months about practicing social distancing, using hand sanitisers and washing hands – also that if you are unwell, not going to work and staying home and being tested. You are able to have that test done through our COVID-18 assessment clinic.

“And the other important thing is to use the COVID-SAFE app.

“The individuals who have been tested and found to be COVID-19 positive are providing information about their contacts.

“The contacts of those people will be notified by the Department of Health and Human Services and they are to self-isolate. If they have symptoms, they are to be tested, otherwise they will be tested at day 11 after their first contact with the individuals.

“There is nothing to be concerned about and if you are concerned, have the test or see your GP.”
