Wizard of Oz to take stage in June

Horsham Arts Council, working with Horsham Rural City Council, has rescheduled its run of The Wizard of Oz, which was postponed following reports of hidden cameras in the hall’s changerooms.

Council Mayor Brian Klowss said representatives from both groups met several times to discuss suitable dates following the alleged security breach on April 1.

“HRCC informed Horsham Arts Council their show would be affected and has remained mindful of the seriousness of the situation and the impact this has had on the community,” he said.

“The Horsham Town Hall has been inspected and cleared by authorities.

“Horsham Arts Council shows are an important highlight of the Horsham Town Hall calendar and a significant contributor to Horsham’s creative vitality.

“The rescheduling of The Wizard of Oz has taken priority to ensure the show can return with minimal disruption and programming at the venue can return to normal as soon as possible.”

A release of new tickets went on sale yesterday for the eight shows, from June 11 to 21.

HAC president and The Wizard of Oz director Erin Boutcher said the group was thrilled to confirm the rescheduled dates. “I would like to personally thank the cast, crew and production team of The Wizard of Oz, along with our local arts community, for their professionalism, resilience and dedication during what has been a challenging and uncertain time,” she said.

“The cast and crew have continued to rehearse while waiting for confirmation of new dates.

“Once safe, Horsham Arts Council wanted to be the first local company back in the venue.”

Miss Boutcher said the group was excited to perform the show.

“We can’t wait to bring this show to the Horsham Town Hall stage, celebrating the resilience and dedication of our local arts community,” she said.

“We believe strongly in the power of the arts to unite and uplift and this production stands as a testament to that.

“The cast, crew and production team are busy putting the final touches in place and working closely with the Horsham Town Hall to deliver a show that promises to be truly memorable.

“We can’t wait to welcome audiences back and see you there for what will be a magical and uplifting experience for all.”

Tickets will be available for purchase from the Horsham Town Hall box office or website www.horshamtownhall.com.au.

Transfer of tickets and honouring pre-existing purchases will take priority.

For anyone holding pre-purchased or reserved tickets from the previous show dates, staff at Horsham Town Hall will be in contact over coming days to confirm ‘like for like’ day and time transfers.

The town hall was closed following reports of cameras being hidden in its changerooms on several occasions; separate sweeps by Victoria Police and an independent anti-surveillance body, on April 1 and April 16 respectively, found no surveillance devices, however the police investigation continues.
