Encouraging start for Ella Walsgott

Junior Horsham triathlete Ella Walsgott is in fine form as she heads into the 2019-20 summer athletics season.

Walsgott won the first School Sport Victoria triathlon of the season at Mulwala on the border of New South Wales and Victoria.

It was an encouraging start for the 16-year-old, who is in her first season in the senior age group in School Sport Victoria competition.

She performed well in a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre ride and a five-kilometre run. The result capped a big month for Walsgott, who ran in three regional track events in September.

She finished second in each of the 800-metre, 1500-metre and 3000-metre finals at regional level, qualifying for state finals in each of the events.

Walsgott finished eighth in the state final of the 3000-metre race in an open age group before deciding to forego the 1500-metre final in favour of the Mulwala triathlon.
