Laharum netballers made history by capturing their club’s first A Grade premiership in 64 years of Horsham District competition with a heart-stopping one-goal win in extra time at Horsham City Oval.

In a see-sawing match between the Demons and two-time defending premier Natimuk United, it was a matter of seconds between triumph and agony.

Laharum co-coach Caitlin Story hit a shot with four seconds remaining  in the fourth quarter to tie the scores, before helping lead her team to a 58-57 win in extra time.

Heartbreakingly for the Ewes, who were chasing their third A Grade premiership in a row, the final horn went with the ball still in the hands of goal shooter Shannon Couch.

Making the win all the more sweet for Laharum was the fact the Ewes have narrowly edged them in several classic finals encounters in recent years.

Ema Iredell was named best on court for her work at goal defence, flying across the court to make two key intercepts in the dying minutes of extra time.

Story and captain Rebecca McIntyre paid tribute to late club stalwart Michele Mibus, who played in five losing grand finals for the Demons, after the win.

The B Grade netball final was won by Kalkee, which came from two goals down at three quarter time to defeat Noradjuha-Quantong 30-27.

The Kees also captured the C Grade premiership with a 43-21 win against Natimuk United, while the C Reserve flag was taken by Noradjuha-Quantong with a 31-26 triumph against Harrow-Balmoral.
